Thoughts after NyQuil

It has been a bit of a rough couple of days since the Maine event. I came down with a cold on the flight home. Thankfully it isn’t Covid, but it was nasty none the less. Now that I have a bit more clarity, I thought I would recap some of the event and lessons learned.

I think the key take away could be summed up with a quote from Bruce Lee “Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own”. I learned much of what I need to do to improve as a person as well as a man at the event. More exercise, more discipline around my vises, more time spent learning and growing. But it also showed me what I need to strip away. The vices, the weight, the diet and sweets, the addictions. I started that as soon as I got home. I uninstalled all video games off of my computer save one (it has educational value) and a couple of multi-player games that I play with my girlfriend. Final Fantasy, gone and canceled, my steam collection uninstalled (not that I played many of them anyway). I also removed all political podcasts from my podcast app and canceled a few subscriptions for services that I really don’t need.

The girlfriend was a bit taken aback by this though it made sense once I explained it to her. She agreed that it wasn’t serving me and once I explained that I wasn’t giving up what we do together to relax she was ok with it. Stripping away what is not serving me will allow me time to develop and grow in new and unexpected ways.

The Maine event showed me much and I will share what I can in the coming days and maybe even weeks. I hope that it might help you as well.
