On Giving Thanks

For those in the US it is Thanksgiving, or how I used to refer to it Turkey Day. For a long time, I didn’t really understand the nature of the holiday or what it would become for me only a few years ago. When I was younger, I would visit various families homes for sometimes upwards of 4 meals in one day, each meal expecting to eat full portions. To say I was stuffed by the end of it was an understatement. But that is what I grew up with, traveling quickly to the next house to enjoy more food without any real thought as to why we celebrated the holiday. Later on, football would also play in the background but that doesn’t really help matters.

This year we are hosting our first dinner. My father will be coming over and it will just be the 3 of us. I’m sure there will be some football playing in the background while we are cooking but I think this year is a bit different, at least it is for me. Since joining the IC I have made it a point to keep things in mind, remember what I am thankful for in life and to not abuse or mistreat them.

This year I am thankful for a lot of things; I am still employed, I have a loving girlfriend, I have a great father that I can spend time with, I am no longer in school and can enjoy some freedom with my time. I am thankful that I am still alive and able to see these wonderful things in the world. I of course am thankful for the IC and all that has happened since joining. I am thankful for who I am today, where I was yesterday and where I will be tomorrow.

For now, it is time to get the turkey in the oven and get prepping for the big meal. My father should be over in about an hour and then its full-on host time.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
